Feeding macaques so that they reliably turned up, to the point that they wandered amongst us on the boat felt like a practice we grew out of in the 1980's, understanding that it is not healthy and can lead to aggressive behaviour if not fed as expected. Not much effort went into finding proboscis monkeys... we returned to dinner…”
